6th National Symposium for NSF REU Research in Data Science, Systems, and Security
A Symposium at 2019 IEEE International Conference
on Big Data (IEEE Big Data 2019)
December 9-12, 2019, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Call for Papers
Undergraduate research plays an important role in attracting our best undergraduates to continue towards graduate education in the science and engineering fields. Publishing research in a professional venue is part of the training for future researchers. The National Science Foundation (NSF) provides support for undergraduate research within the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The goal of this symposium is to provide a venue for students to publish their research done as part of the REU program.
The symposium seeks original submissions in research areas that are currently funded by the NSF related to computing, systems, security or data science. The key requirement for this symposium is that the submission’s lead author must be an undergraduate student funded as part of the NSF REU program, either as an REU supplement or REU Site.
Papers will be peer-reviewed and published by IEEE in the conference proceedings.
Important Dates
Oct 24, 2019: Due date for full workshop papers submission (deadline extended from Oct 10)
Nov 15, 2019: Notification of paper acceptance to authors
Nov 20, 2019: Camera-ready of accepted papers
Dec 9-12, 2019: Conference and Symposiums
Submission
Submission requirements: Each full length symposium submission can have up to 8 pages in IEEE conference format. We also will be accepting short papers with a maximum of 4 pages.
Detailed instructions for manuscript format and submission can be found at the conference website. The lead author for each submission must be an undergraduate student that was funded by the REU supplement or REU Site program. Each paper must be presented by one registered author at the symposium. We do not require the presenter be the lead author of the paper. A submission must not be in parallel submission to any other journal, magazine, conference, or workshop with proceedings.
